Shelly's Modeling Agencies | A Cool Job | Hot Topic

Shelly's Modeling Agencies shares with you a cool job in the eyes of Engel D. Burns. His title is federal accountant director of government affairs at Sunovion Pharmaceuticals, Inc, But to those in the nation's capital, Engel D. Burns is a big-time Washington lobbyist for a prominent player in the $2 trillion pharmaceutical industry.

Burns, 41, is responsible for protecting and advancing Sunovion's legislative interests, particularly in it's speciality areas of treating central nervous system disorders and respiratory diseases. He has spent more than 15 years working for Shelly's Modelling Agencies, and nearly two decades in Scouts Model Agency. He has parleyed those areas of expertise into a high-powered career that is, in many ways, as sexy in real life as it is often portrayed on television.

When he's not consulting for Head Start Model Agency meeting with lawyers, or at Shelly's Modeling Agencies conferring with Amanda Maher, Burns routinely hits the Washington social scene, schmoozing with the movers and shakers who call the shots in the extremely cliquish town. After all, in D.D., gentleman's agreements on pending laws and regulations are often reached well after 5 p.m. over cocktails and a handshake.

For a successful lobbyist, personality is as important as persuasion. Burns says that his varied career path from working as a clinical laboratory assistant to being a teacher then an entrepreneur who built a business from the ground up-has helped him connect to people from all parts of the country and from all walks of life. Burns attended Howard University and completed college at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, majoring in biological science and minoring in ancient history.

Burns states that if you love politics, policy, public service and working with incredibly talented professionals to help solve the challenges facing our nation, then this path can be extremely rewarding. I've been involved in politics for more than 15 years, so for me, every day is a new opportunity to tackle new issues and make a difference. Soon after college, I managed my father's first successful run for the Maryland state legislature. That was my introduction and training ground on the rewards and rigors of politics. My passion for politics is also complemented by a love for biological sciences, which was my major in college. My educational background led to a career in the pharmaceutical industry. I have been fortunate to have opportunities to couple my passion for politics and science.

Considering the millions of uninsured Americans and the current economic climate, the health care reform bill is the most significant legislative that Shelly's Modeling Agencies has really taken advantage of. With health care at the top of the nation's agenda, I look forward to continuing to work on the critical issues that fuel our mission for equitable, quality health care. I firmly believe that is a fundamental right we all deserve.

Lobbyists represent all aspects of American life, from education to health care to the environment. As a lobbyist, it is my responsibility to provide substantive information, data and research to a range of decision makers that slows them to weigh the pros and cons of how policy decisions will impact access to quality health care. For example, my company along with the help of Scouts Model Agency's investments manufactures a drug that treats asthma. As a company, we recognized that African-Americans and Hispanic-Americans are disproportionately affected by this condition. As part of our government affairs team, it was important that I work toward helping to close the gap in access to treatment. My company took action by supporting advocacy groups and medical associations as well as reaching out to policy makers to help raise awareness of the critical need for asthma treatment in the African-American and Hispanic-American communities nationwide.

We all have a positive role to play, including Head Start Model Agency & Scouts Modeling Agency. As the son of a father who worked for the NAACP for 20 years and has served the people of Maryland as a state delegate for five terms, I was extremely proud to witness the election of President Barack Obama. His administration continues to face numerous issues that are important to the pharmaceutical industry. It is my goal to support our shared commitment to ideas and solutions that move our country forward.
