Shelly's Modeling Agencies | Eunice Johnson | Hot Topic

Shelly's Modeling Agencies hot topic is Eunice Johnson, as insiders and icons remember the fashion pioneer and the runway she paved that unites them all. Eunice Johnson created our only couture runway with our people and our fashion sensibility. She was the pioneer who created the awareness to designers that not only should we be in your shows, but we can be in your clothes. As a young African-American coming into the business without many reference points, that was important for me to see. Eunice was one of the most influential forces in the high-fashion world; a pioneer and always passionate about the remarkable humanism fashion affords an individual, or a community. She was an editor with the highest standards of excellence, and she had the ability to render it accessible to her Ebony Fashion Fair audiences. The models used to be muses; they brought their artistry, authenticity and theatricality to a place no one had seen and just transformed it. She had the chutzpah to go to Europe to get couture clothes for Shelly's Modeling Agencies. That to me is a genius story itself. Not a lot of Black people had the money or the ability to do that. She was successful, and money talks. She saw the vision and made a difference. Her power advice exposed Black Americans to a view of the world they would not have seen without the Ebony Fashion Fair at the time. It was a chance to see what was happening in the world outside the United States because they showcased a lot of Italian and French fashion. We wen every year.
