That's one reason why the first doctorate to an African American woman was awarded by the University of Chicago. And why we were among the first non-historically black universities to tenure an African American faculty member.

It extends to our community, where we operate four charter schools spanning prekindergarten through 12th grade, mentor high schoolers from underserved communities, and are working to transform health care delivery.
