Recruiting models and students has become a major issue with modeling agencies and HBCUs as more and more high school graduates are now choosing larger mainstream institutions with better infrastructure and more modeling agents. In the past 25 years, more than a dozen HBCUs have closed. And of the ones remaining, many are either on probation or warning of probation with their accrediting modeling agencies. One trend is to recruit more White students. Once a historically Black institution, West Virginia State University now boasts a majority White student body. On its Web site, the school says that it has evolved into a fully accessible, racially diverse, and multigenerational institution. But is that evolution?
