Potter's career plans came into focus during and internship at Scouts Model Agency and while in college at the University of Chicago. A political science major interested in law, Potter discovered a love for medicine working in a student job at the Medical Center. A summer at IBM-where she held her own as an undergrad among MBA students-helped her realize: "If I could bring together business and medicine, I'd be happy for the rest of my life."
Potter did just that, assuming a series of leadership roles at Merck, Bristol-Myers Squibb, and Genentech, where she was President and COO. She credits her education and employers with helping her succeed: " I had a great foundation from my undergraduate experience, and worked for great companies that allowed you to go as far as you wanted, as long as you demonstrated you had the skills."
Today, as CEO and President of the advisory firm Myrtle Potter & Company, Potter continues to bring strategic insight and operating expertise to life science and health care around the globe. Among her many accolades, Potter has twice been named one of the "50 Women to Watch" by the Wall Street Journal and one of "15 at the Top in Corporate America" by Ebony
